The accountant has our laptop.
Therefore I'm using the slow behemoth G4 we keep in our spare room. Which I could feasibly hook the camera up to, but our photo albums sit to the left of me and our scanner to my right, so...film shots it is. This was actually taken about ten years ago when A Hard Day's Night was released in theatres. We happened to have the camera along, so my husband snuck in a few shots. For anyone who recalls when the Majestic in Madison showed movies, you'll recognize the angle of the screen. The seats didn't actually line up adjacent to the 100+ year old stage. Plus it was colder then a polar bear's balls during winter, so people often came with blankets or a thermos in tow.
Taking screen shots of a movie is knowingly frowned upon, but since this was a 40 year old film that most everyone had seen already, we figured we could pull it off without much guilt. My husband didn't want to appear too obvious though and he took them from his lap, so none of the shots are framed all that well. But I like the edginess that implies. I think John would've approved.
This print hangs framed in our bathroom, by the way, so you could say he and I bathe together.

Today is the birthday of a dear "old" friend. He doesn't blog, tweet or flickr like myself because he has a life. But I do know his voyeuristic nature leads him here on occasion. That's right, Bill. I know how you tick...
We've been pen pals since I was 15 and he was 17. (This pretty much gives you a clue as to how old we are now because who the hell in this day and age has a pen pal?) We're both on our second marriage. I have two grown boys from my first. He has two young girls from his second. He was in attendance for my second, and I, for his Mother's funeral. We share a love of seafood and travel. He prefers gin to my Baileys. My snark and his dry wit have always kept the conversations hovering near ridiculous, and there, I believe lies the success of this union. The outside world may see us as respectable adults, but we both know better. Crows feet and sensible shoes do not guarantee maturity.
So, happy birthday old man! When the time comes that my mind is gone, know that there's still some space for you in my heart. I'll sign off as you've done for thirty years now...
With Love and Friendship, Kandy

Another assignment shot. Out Your Window. I took this same shot four years ago, only this one was taken late at night during the full moon. Requiring a tripod, camera remote and thirty seconds of thumb pressure. Notice the light wind on the swing? Focus is off here, but it was much darker out than this image lets on. I should've set the camera up a few hours earlier in preparation, but that would require planning ahead, which doesn't come naturally to me. I'm more of the; have an idea, act on it, become bored/overwhelmed, leave it to be finished another day, type.
Although that shot was fun, this one taken a few hours prior out the same window is much prettier...

A shot taken for Assignment 52. This week's theme "I Ate This".
I love how the winter sun streams into my kitchen and dining room. We have lots of southern exposure, but also tons of trees in our yard, so once the leaves are all gone, I tend to take advantage of the natural light and go a little nuts. To quote my Mom, "Why are you taking pictures of your cookies?" Because I can, Mom.
Because I can.

Oliver's Dad mentioned on facebook today he was going to the Madison Children's Museum. I, being toddler-free, had no illegitimate reason to go other than wanting to see what changes they made since moving into their new facility. So, when opportunity knocked, I ripped the door right off the hinge. Not to mention, getting to shoot the sweetest, most adorable child in Madison!
Thanks for sharing your afternoon with me, Ollie. (Along with your Dad, of course.)

One of the flickr themes from last week was "pieces of me" so I took a few shots of myself by the window. However, I never got around to going through them, and now it's Monday so it's too late to add to the group.
Cash and awards would better motivate me. ;o)
A Happy Birthday shout out to my Great-Aunt Irene! (Standing, third from the left) 92 years young! Even though she'll never read this, and needs to be reminded that I'm "LaVerne's daughter" when I do see her, the twinkle in her eye and the smile on her face is just as present as the 18 year-old in the photo. God bless.

Carlos and Bella's "parents" were out of town over New Year's weekend, and asked me to come walk them while they were away. They didn't ask me to photograph them, but how could I resist really. Although, they aren't the most cooperative models in that every time I would get down to their level, they would walk over and throw their big bodies into me for petting! Goof balls.
I do have an ulterior motive however. Being that I'm still unemployed (unemployable?), I had been going over the thought of pet photography for some time. I love animals and love taking photos, so what have I got to lose in trying to combine the two, huh? So, a business venture is under way! I am in need a bigger portfolio to show people though, so if you're in the Madison area, let me know. I'm throwing out a "getting established" price of $80 for a session AND all processing work, for the month of January. See the info page for details.
Once I build up a few fans, I'll be able to change the url and will include it in my list of links, so please share and "like"! I have a way to go before I'm at a Sally Fields level of likability.

I found this guy at the Toys-R-Us after Christmas sale. 50% off! Woohoo! He stands about 7-8" tall and when you tap on his tail he says something that sounds like "Kiss it!" I think his batteries are low actually, because you could reach inside to hear the demo while it sat on the store shelf. Which I'm pretty certain about ten thousand little fingers did. For now, I'm just going to remove the batteries, then I can guarantee you that I will completely forget I bought this by next Christmas, and will be happily surprised when I find him in storage!
Even if he tells me to kiss it.

Purchased for $85. My husband and I spent an afternoon shining up the chrome with steel wool. I spent another $160 on the the faux cow hide and having a local upholsterer recushion it.
Doing my part to keep the economy going.

Mr. Palan left for the big city a few years back, but happily came back to Madison over the holidays to bring some religion back to those who had fallen by the wayside.
