fennel. better to photograph than to eat

fennel. better to photograph than to eat

It certainly looks pretty, doesn't it? I like the braided appearance. Not to say it tasted awful. The balsamic vinegar and orange juice reduction meant to go on the top, was much better served on the chicken, and was even a big hit on strawberries for dessert!

As for fennel? Meh.

i've had fennel seed, but the plant itself tastes and smells like black licorice, which i'm not a fan of.

I have never had fennel. Dawn says good you say bad I must try and see for myself. I do love black licorice. B

I've never tasted it. When Gordon told me it tastes "licorice", phew! I don't want to try it!!

The picture, though, is superb!

it wasn't bad with the reduction. here's the recipe, sam!

equal parts balsamic vinegar and orange juice (maybe 1/8 c. each. i don't measure. just so the bottom of my sauce pan has about an 1/8" layer?) cook it down while whisking. it will become clearer, darker, and a bit thicker. add a drizzle of maple syrup, cook another minutes or two. pour on whatever you damn well please.

i've made balsamic vinegar and maple reduction (without o.j.) for pork too.

seriously, you could pour this on ice cream.

this blog is my "live" photo album of sorts. occasionally, i'll throw in some art i've done or some work of my husband's as he's an artist as well. we have a nice yard in a quiet neighborhood with two pugs and a cat, all black. which most of my photos will attest too. ;) i'd love to hear from you, but happy for you to just browse. hope you find something to make you smile. b.
