monroe balloon rally

Last weekend was the 25th annual balloon rally in Monroe, Wisconsin. We attended their evening "glow" at dusk. The balloons were fired up intermittently, but several times the crowds would do a count down for them to light up in unison. Pretty cool sight. They had taken flight earlier in the evening, but obviously remained tied down for the glow. Not too safe for a hot air balloon to fly around in the dark, so they claimed. pbbbbt.

Twenty-five photos in all, right here. Enjoy.

Finally finished uploading Kelsey's pix! See the entire set here.

Now to play catch up...

Sorry if you're sick of Kelsey at this point. Guess I took a lot. Come back in a week. I should be done by then.

foto-free rambling

My Mom has this saying. "If I had that guy's _____ and he had a feather up his ass, we'd both be tickled!" Not that I heard if often as my Mom isn't a terribly envious person, but it proved to me she was human and would like nicer things in life, like anyone else, frankly.

I can understand envy. "I wish I could afford a car like that." "That is a sweet Ipad!" But I don't understand jealously. I understand it's definition, of course, but unless I take envy to the degree where I steal my object of desire, it's not effecting anyone life but my own. Jealously effects lives, and often unnecessarily. It's an emotion that is born from one's own misguided interpretation of the situation, and usually leads to deceit to spare the jealous person of more of the same. Elvis understood. "We're caught in a trap...because I love you too much, baby."

What am I getting at here? Jealousy was basically the downfall of my first marriage. "Yes, I was talking to that guy. I asked what today's specials were. So fuck you." I'm not even exaggerating. Your emotions may not run high enough to express disapproval of your loved one. Maybe you just feel that twinge of "what does s/he think s/he's getting away with?" and simply pout for the next 24 hours. Not hugely different, in my book. Your feelings will eventually get expressed and one of two things will happen. 1)Your significant other will think you foolish and eventually grow tired of the unfounded accusations. Or, 2)said loved one will think you're being silly as it is only you they love, then proceed to protect you from reliving the experience by hiding further events (or articles) until you've actually managed to alter the personality of this person you love. This version takes much longer to transpire as years could pass before they realize how miserably unhappy they are and leave you when you're no longer attractive to anyone. (Not you though. You still look great for your age!)

Even though I'm not a jealous person, I feel the weight of it. My being a friend to someone of the opposite sex or simply a friend of a friend who introduced me and wonders now why we are close. Gosh, I guess we bonded over your psychosis. Who'd have thunk it?

I could go on about inanimate subjects but I'm sure you can come up with your own example of having an object or talent or simply a knowledge of something, that someone else finds worthy of hatred toward you. I don't want this to sound like I have some huge ego and am worthy of jealously either. I really don't. What's mine is yours until you've proven yourself incapable of sharing your own object/talent/knowledge. In this case, your jealousy is just annoying and I will happily move on to friendlier territory. I'm sure you have your reasons for keeping such a tight reign on your life. I just don't understand it. And you, in turn, don't understand what you're missing.

Bit out of focus, but my favorite out of the ones we shot in bed.

Filled another two 4meg cards this weekend. I am seriously up shit creek here.

My apologies to Kelsey as I've only made it through about a third of her images. Been a bit busy lately...

14 June 2010

It's fun working with animated models. Someone who easily changes up their pose or expression. I think Kelsey has a great modeling future ahead of her, if she chooses that route. Our first series of shots were taken at a local cemetery. Maybe a little too obvious a choice with her appearance, but we did not have access to a merry-go-round, or something over-the-top cheerful to play against. Who really looks at backgrounds anyway with a face like this. ;o)

Speaking of Grampa (see last post), my god he would've loved Kelsey here. The man was the biggest flirt I've ever known. One of his favorite things to watch was the Miss America pageant. And remember when you could speak to an operator on the phone? (That's right, kids, people used to do the work of computers way back when.) Well, Grampa would engage operators in fifteen minute long conversations, asking their name and about their day. The man sure did love the ladies.

He would've creeped Kelsey out.

More pix of Kelsey to come. I'm behind in processing...as usual.

I have no clue as to what was going on here. Grampa was a farmer and a carpenter, not a coal miner. And a amateur photographer, of course. He died before flickr became popular, but I'm guessing he would have loved knowing I'm exposing him and all his shenanigans.

once upon a time, there was a little wooden horse...

my brother and sister on that same horse

it's in my possession today...

Many a child's butt has touched this rocker. I'm not sure of the complete story, but I'm guessing Grampa built it for my uncle Donnie (shown in top photo). Donnie was born in 1945. Yup, those are Roy Roger chaps. Next photo; my brother and sister, circa 1962-ish by the looks of them.

The final photo was taken just moments ago. It now sits in the corner of my bedroom. My kids also put it to good use, but unfortunately I never got a photo of them using it. Luckily, no one else in the family has questioned its whereabouts, and I'm not about to remind them I still have it. It's something of my Grampa's I don't wish to lose track of.

So, you can bring your toddler to my house and he's welcome to give it a gallop, but it's back to the corral when he's finished.

My Mom is the oldest of three. Donnie, shown here, is six years younger. Ronnie didn't make an appearance until Mom was thirteen. Speaking as the youngest myself, I can concur that there aren't nearly as many photos of him as of the older two kids. You can see Donnie and Ronnie together here, killing a bear. Be warned, it's a gruesome sight.

family picnic

Thought I'd throw a few more old family photos up on the site this week. Shown from left to right; grampa, my uncle Donnie, a cousin, my mom, and gramma. Gramma looking very summer-picnic fashionable. My guess is they just returned from church.

Several weeks back we attended a lovely anniversary party of some friends. Another friend took photos of all the guests. There was some pretty interesting posing going on. I'm not yet seeing any of those on her flickr stream, but she doesn't update all that often. (No pressure, Amethyst.) It's my guess she's still putting in all the photoshop work needed on those she took of me. Har, har.
