team cupcake, go!

team cupcake, go!

Thursday and Friday I assisted my friends, Wade and Laura at Cupcakes-a-gogo with a hefty order. 1300+ cupcakes for American Girl's employee appreciate day. Most of their orders are birthday parties, weddings and showers, maybe 3-10 dozen. A request for 105 dozen required a third body, and really I wasn't doing anything.

And yes, I work for cupcakes. I played the part of Deadbeat Employee #2.

Go here to watch Laura get all creative AND get her recipe for pumpkin cheesecake cupcakes, or see my links below to order from her directly if you're in the Madison area.

...Back in New Orleans. At Mardi Gras World, a huge warehouse where they store the floats. Or props as the individual items are called. They gave a detailed tour allowing you to just roam the warehouse afterward. Very cool, even at 94ยบ.

Last night's show at the Inferno was titled Filth. It combined an exotic photo exhibit, with several bands and performances by Foxy Veronica's Peach Pies. I believe the Madtown Hellcats showed a little skin too, but we didn't stay for the second set. You can blame my cold. It has moved to the back of my throat. I feel the girls may have been offended had I started gagging during some lusty maneuver.

This shot is of Foxy herself. (You probably got that from the title.)

Hi. I'm back to the land of the living. Or in this case, the land of sitting in front of a glowing screen. Our accountant worked his magic for four days, so we probably qualify as a legal business by government standards now. If not, we just blew $700+. Oh well.

Meanwhile, I went to a Avett Brothers concert! (yay!) But no photos were allowed inside. (boo!) I did however, get shots of them outside by their bus! (yay!) Although, it was pretty dark which made them difficult to capture. (boo!) Even so...(yay!)

Special shout-out to the adorable drunk girl who spoke to me of cabbage, cloud cult, and cooking. Seriously, you were more entertaining than the opening act! Next time I see you, I promise to drink too so our conversation can have even less direction than it did that night. ;o)

photo-free wednesday

I haven't been able to post as our accountant has had our laptop for several days now. I really don't feel like posting from our old Mac as it always gives me grief when I try to go back to wireless. So, I'm posting today to say, move along, nothing to see here.

It's my guess our accountant is taking his time as he goes through all the porn sites we have bookmarked.

I'm probably half way through these New Orleans shots by now, but I'm not sure as I haven't even looked at disk two yet. Honestly, NOLA, must you be so photogenic?

a gallery

a gallery

A Gallery for Fine Photography was pretty memorable the last time we were in NOLA, so we hit it again this trip. Anyone with half an interest in photography should do so as this stuff is museum quality. Only in this case you can see that that Henri Cartier-Bresson is gonna set you back you 25Gs. I've always loved this shot! Maybe someone will get it for me for Christmas... (Oprah, are you listening?) The second floor has a changing exhibit, and this show was work by Jessica Lange. Yes, that Jessica Lange. And she's good! I had no idea.

It's just like her not to tell me.

Just an observation. Most of the bicycles in New Orleans have white wall tires. Is this a thing?

amazing....

We were seated in the front row. Our knees were practically touching here. When we sat, he asked if we'd be singing along. Well, if I'd have known the words...

When in New Orleans, be sure to stop at Fritzel's European Jazz Pub on Bourbon Street for some classic Dixieland. I'm not a huge fan of Bourbon Street in general, but this place is worth elbowing drunks to get into.

I haven't looked through my New Orleans photos yet. Took quite a few, as you can imagine. Here's one taken in Milwaukee earlier this summer to tied you over. This store's close approximation to MIAD may have lead to this inspirational display.

We're off to New Orleans Wednesday! I've got about seven gobzillion things to do before then. Catch up with you again once I'm sober.

Actually, I'm usually asleep after my second drink, so I'll catch up after a nice nap.

prepare for take off

prepare for take off

I made the mistake of asking a flickrite if he actually shot the images in his photostream. That's all. I didn't mean any harm, but he got his undies in a bunch, banned my comments, and left a nasty comment on one of my photos he had said he liked just hours before. Things got ugly. His work is not awful. It's simply over the top. My images are more SOTC, where his are a combination of several images, not all of them with comparable lighting. There are MANY photographers out there who feel that because they've got a handle on the pen tool in Photoshop, they can attempt to make compositions. Or that it's ok to just flop those birds and bring the opacity down so they will reflect in the water below. A simple lesson in perspective shows his work is not physically possible. Luckily for him, 95% of the population never took a perspective class so they absolutely LOVE his stuff! He hasn't even discovered the ripple or wave filters yet. It's just sad.

Ok so, I'm all self-righteous about imaging software. I've worked in Photoshop for over fifteen years now. I've taught and trained others in it. But I admit, I need to hold my tongue. He was doing fine in his little make-believe world and doesn't want to hear it can't exist. I should've just allowed him this fantasy. He is making seeing-impaired people happy.

My apologies.

...which was just my name for them as I didn't know what they were called. But thanks to Miss Mich on flickr, I now know they are called white baneberries, or doll eye's. A bit on the creepy side. Sort of like those aryan kids from Village of the Damned with their tiny pupils. Oooooo, you're gonna get so scared...
