It's damn cold out! It will supposedly remain so through the next 5-6 days. Time to haul out some summer shots. This image is a companion to this one.

Hurley says "dude"

Last year during the season finale of LOST, we had the neighbors over. We served Hawaiian pizza and Hawaiian Punch, tossed some rather lame tropical decorations around the house, and played LOST bingo. I wrapped gifts (crap from the dollar store) that could come in handy if stranded on a desert island, such as a needle and thread, toy fishing pole, and a can opener. Even though the night was liquor free due to the presence of toddlers, we chalked it up as a success. So, I thought I'd pass on the bingo cards to any of you who might care to play yourselves as LOST starts up again tomorrow. Just download the pdf file here.

The only thing is, I haven't altered these from last summer or whenever the hell it was. There are squares that may no longer apply. Eko could still be referred to as a priest but seeing he's dead, there probably won't be much talk of him at all. And if they're gonna make us sit though another 3 episodes of just Sawyer, Jack and Kate stuck in enemy camp, you won't hear a lot of "bingo" being shouted. (Sorry about the spoiler there if you're catching up on dvd.) Basically, feel free to use these as you see fit.

Of course, you also have the option of turning this into a drinking game. If you are of college age and reading this, I'm sure you made that decision at the mention of pizza.

Husband. Doing what he does best. Well...

You can see his links below, or check out what he's posted on flickr. You'll probably see this piece finished there within the next week. When you do, tell him bon bon sent you.

It wasn't until he started the flickr account that we learned they are not partial to illustrators and don't make their images as easy to search as the photographers. Maybe the creator of flickr, as a child, had a illustrator/grandfather who beat him senselessly with a broom handle, and now harbors a resentment for them. Or a step-mother use to force him to watch He-Man while eating live dung beetles. I'm just throwing those out there. Feel free to start your own rumor.

9:15 arrival on track 4

9:15 arrival on track 4

My father-in-law is one of those people. A train nut. There's probably a more official title for someone who dedicates one whole room in their house to building a small city just so a toy train can go in figure eights around it, but let's just use nut for the lack of a better word.

However, I should point out other characteristics this man displays. By trade, he's a self-employed carpenter. He donated a parcel of land to Habitat For Humanity, plus helped build the house that now stands there. He spends several hours every weekend providing hospice care to terminally ill people. Through his church, he frequently gives his time and skills to helping others. Currently, he's in Mississippi, assisting with another home. Although, he's old enough to retire, being self-employed, it's still a little out of reach. I can't foresee the man not working though even if he didn't have to. If we have a plumbing, electrical, roof (etc.) problem, he'll be here in "about twenty minutes." Seriously, the man's a saint.

I'll give him his toy trains.

Yes, I did have to look that up.

I made these tiny ray guns a few years ago now, out of polymer clay. They're less than 2" wide. The background is another auction purchase. One of two space puzzles. The color is more vibrant, but I toned it down as not to take away from the color of the guns. I've been meaning to frame the puzzles, but we tend to have quite a number of unfinished projects laying around the house at any given time. Maybe this is due to the fact both us work in heavy deadline environments, so at home the mindset is "put it in the closet, we'll get to it some day." I've got at least two closets that require a linebacker's assistant in closing.

I'm not much of a bar person. One drink usually makes me drowsy. I feel obligated though to show patronage to an establishment in which I'm seeing a concert. In that case, the music does the job of keeping me awake. I avoid operas where they serve liquor, for obvious reasons.

sailing the arctic

We spent one very long weekend, a few years back, cutting an old globe in half, puncturing holes along the coastline, adding beads, and turning it into a lampshade. Won't be doing that again any time soon. Talk of turning the southern hemisphere into a ceiling light died before the blisters had fully formed.

sunday morning

sunday morning

This was the view from my bedroom window this morning. It still is actually, only now it's full of pug tracks and a few small, yellow indentations.

Cub's cat, Issac, was out when the dogs were "doing their business" (as our neighbor, Holly calls it). After Nigel had peed in the snow, Issac walked over and proceeded to examine the unfresh area in question. Before I could finish scolding him, he tidily mound up snow from both side of the pee to make a clean little hill. I was pretty impressed. Now if only I could get him to vacuum.

Taken at an antique toy auction. Competition kept us from buying anything here. Not sure why we continue to keep going to auctions. They are quite addictive though. We went to one over the holidays, and I purchased some turn of the century (twentieth century) clothing. Bought a velvet opera coat, and a man's bowler still in the box, among other things. Plus this very strange vest with fringes and metal decoration on the front. The plan is to get some interesting photos of these things, then get them on ebay. However, actually getting this done requires more effort then I can muster in the dead of a deary winter. You know the saying...The best laid plans, would benefit from natural sunlight. Or something like that.

I don't recall where these came from. I seem to remember someone giving them to me saying "You're an artist! Maybe you can do something with these!" Funny how people think. To their credit, here I am doing something with them. Now, they shall go back to the bottom of the drawer from which they came until approximately 2011. That's when I predict the drawer will once again be too full to open without crap falling off the back into the drawer below.

Yay! Yesterday we finally got some snow, and today we got some sun. I celebrated by taking the day off. I needed a refresher on what the sun felt like. Still felt pretty damn cold. Even more so when you're kneeling in the snow to take photos. I obviously didn't take my level outside with me, but I sort of like the odd angle. These are bunny tracks, I believe. Or cat. Or squirrel. Hell, I don't know. Could be a cat chasing a bunny chasing a squirrel.

...or gopher. No, no, no, not a gopher. Aaaaa...hippopotamus?!*

I was cleaning out some drawers today (looking for a car title — no, I haven't found it yet, Keith), and came across a set of photos I took of a co worker's band a couple years ago. That's Tom on the upright bass. I can't tell from the negatives which one I liked the best, and my scanner is soooo sloooooowww, so I'm giving you the first one I can tell Tom is featured in. By day, Tom's a copywriter, so if he reads this and there are typos (chances are good), I'm sure I'll hear about it. :o)

The band is called The Midwesterners. Check them out here!

natures answer to winters blues...cookies!

natures answer to winters blues...cookies!

Last night I baked cookies, and Kensi stood by the table where they cooled, and cried. I admit, before grabbing the camera, I slid the cookies to the edge of the table knowing she could just reach the edge like this. Didn't take long for my little fish to bite.

While I have your attention, have you seen this short PSA on the effects of drugs on spiders? It's highly educational.

Kensi may be wearing an innocent face at his moment, but just seconds before she was attacking Nigel about the face and jowls, where all that loose skin is easy to grab a hold of. Poor guy. We keep hoping she's on the verge of maturity, and will lose the desire to bite his face off, but it hasn't happened yet. In the meantime, Nigel tries to keep a low profile in her presence, and shows bouts of playfulness when Kensi's been locked in a room for chewing on him. I think if he would've been given the option, he would have remained an "only pug".

She's very sweet when she's tired. Then she wants to cuddle with him. Women.

The temps have been in the 40ºs since Christmas. Needless to say, it wasn't a white one this year. I'm not complaining! It's great just slipping on a jacket to stroll around the yard with the dogs. Friday night, I fired up the grill and we had the neighbors over for brats! Today, I thought I'd take a closer look at our magnolia tree and sure enough, it's full of buds! The daffodils are up half an inch too. The bad news is, it's January! Nature is pulling a cruel hoax. Our poor little magnolia tree is going to freeze it's buds off.
